Antenna POC Background
China’s rapid development and urbanization have been accompanied by an enormous increase in high-rise residential buildings in urban areas. This has created a number of challenges for mobile users and operators, including insufficient depth in the coverage of the currently deployed single-polarized, single-beam, wide-angle spotlight antennas, which has progressively become a pressing issue as user speed and data requirements grow. It is common for the occupants of high-rise residential buildings to struggle with poor network performance, and unfortunately, criticisms aimed at these unpleasant experiences are becoming the norm.

In order to tackle this issue and to improve the overall Quality of Service, China Mobile (Tong Liao Branch) and PROSE have developed a cross-polarized, vertical dual-beam antenna suitable for achieving deep coverage in high-rise buildings.
Antenna Installation Location and Tilt Configuration
The antenna has been installed on the roof of a building located in the Shangri-La Community (Tongliao City) with a height of about 105 meters and a gap of about 43 meters between the antenna and the building receiving the signal coverage (the tilt angle is configured at 13° – see pictures below for reference).
The Comparison Between PROSE’s Solution and the Previous Antenna
The antennas installed at the building before were three single-polarized, wide-angle, spotlight antennas, while PROSE’s new antenna is a single, vertical, dual-beam, cross-polarized, wide-angle antenna.
PROSE’s antenna has a much higher gain (3~4dB) than that of the spotlight antenna, and as a dual-polarized antenna, it allows a better polarization diversity gain and offers superior overall performance. The new antenna is also considerably smaller and lighter than the previous system while also carrying significantly lower costs for the operator. Compared with a single-beam wide-angle antenna, PROSE’s vertical dual-beam antenna allows a wider coverage angle (±26°) and a targeted main lobe for weak coverage areas in both high-rise and low-rise areas, a configuration which is far more suitable for this type of application. Additionally, two vertical beams can be turned into two separate sectors for a flexible capacity expansion.
Test Results Comparison
Building Peripheral Testing:

Through the comparative analysis of the building peripheral test results, it can be easily seen how the coverage convergence of PROSE’s antenna is much better, with the added advantage of not presenting any coverage overshooting.
Testing in indoor areas of residential buildings (respectively for the higher and lower levels of the buildings):
Lower Floors:

Higher Floors:

The comparison of the test results clearly shows that the RSRP and SINR of PROSE’s vertical double-beam antenna are significantly higher than those of the wide-angle antenna. This solves the lack of deep coverage of the previously installed antenna, allowing the operator to meet the daily network needs of its users, improve the wireless network environment of the building, and therefore greatly improve customer satisfaction.
