One of Africa's largest mobile network operators faced growing pressure to maintain service quality in high-density urban areas of South Africa. Rapid growth in mobile users and data traffic placed heavy strain on the existing tri-sector antenna infrastructure supporting GSM1800, UMTS2100 and LTE2600 networks.

The existing tri-sector configuration could no longer handle increasing user traffic, causing network congestion and declining performance. Deploying a higher-capacity antenna system also introduced technical challenges related to antenna connections and beam configuration.
PROSE deployed a 24-port hybrid beam antenna enabling sector expansion and advanced beam configurations. Hard-split beams were applied to GSM1800/UMTS2100, while soft-split beams optimized LTE2600 performance.
Key Results
Sector expansion: from 3 sectors to 6 sectors
Capacity increase: up to 2× improvement
User throughput: up to 3.83× higher
Physical Resource Block (PRB) utilization: 20–27% reduction
